Eclipse | Glass sculpture

I created Eclipse through several stages. First, I sculpted the prototype using fine art plasticine. Next, I made a silica-plaster mold, removed the prototype, and poured glass into the hollow cavity.

The suspended pattern in the center was formed by carefully assembling two precisely measured glass blocks, which were treated and fire-polished at the junctures before being melted together.

Once the piece was cast, it was polished to enhance clarity and finished with sandblasting to bring out contrast in the surface.

The sculpture was created using Ohara’s eco-optical glass, known for its purity and visual properties. The optical qualities of the glass were crucial in creating the illusion of emptiness around the central suspended pattern, despite the sculpture being entirely solid.

Bringing Eclipse to life took several weeks, with the process involving various stages of shaping, mold-making, casting, and polishing to fully realize the piece.
