About Anna Alsina Bardagí

Anna Alsina Bardagí is a contemporary glass artist based in Barcelona (Spain). She explores the manipulation of light, heat, and gravity through optical glass, combining kiln casting techniques with optical-precision polishing.

Her sculptures require experimental techniques, as well as physics and chemistry knowledge to gain control of the internal shapes in the glass. Internal designs are formed during the casting process by altering the glass elements before they enter the kiln. She exclusively uses lead and arsenic-free, eco-optical glass to maintain the purity of her work.

In her own words: “Optical glass offers a sense of depth and illusion. It’s heavy yet fragile. Depending on your perspective, it creates a sense of movement but at the same time stillness.”

She has always been fascinated by the laws of physics and the universe, and her art is driven by a desire to challenge the boundaries of dimensional spaces inside optical glass.

My art is driven by a desire to capture light, transparency, and the optical illusions that only glass can create.”

Anna was born in Madrid, Spain, and grew up in a creative environment surrounded by nature in the scenic village of Begur by the Mediterranean sea. She studied communications and journalism at the Autonomous University of Barcelona and worked as a reporter and science communications executive before pursuing her creative endeavors.

Anna’s artworks aim to capture the delicate balance between strength and fragility. Her creations often feature fluid lines, intricate details, and an interplay of transparency and optical reflections.

Her artworks have been exhibited in galleries, museums, and art institutions around the world, including the United States, Andorra, Belgium, France, Switzerland, Spain, and Japan, among others. Anna’s artistic creations can be found in private collections in the United States and Europe.
